A
word from the Geordie Connection
My
first recollection of Ronnie and Reggie Kray was as a ten year old child.
I was sitting at home with my mam and dad as they watched the news intently.
Two middle-aged men dressed in black were emerging from the back of
green prison vans to attend there mothers' funeral in Chingford Essex.
Large crowds had gathered to catch a glimpse of these two gangland legends
in what was there first real glimpse of the outside world since there
arrests in Spring 1968. That news report and my parents interest had
left its mark on my imagination. I decided to share my examination success with the two people that i had studied so intently and i began to write the letters which would change the course of my young life forever....Dear Ron....Dear Reg....My letters let the brothers Kray know who i was and what i was about and if i could do anything to help them then they only had to ask and i would see what i could do. A bit forward i know, but as they say in the Nort East of England,"Shy bairns get 'nowt." The next few days were spent camped at my letter box waiting for my replies. As each day passed i resigned myself to the fact that they had decided against writing back to a young lad from Tyneside. The letter box rattled. I flicked through the post, phone bill, gas bill, water rates, stamped addressed envelope...hold on. Was this the reply i had been waiting for? I carefully opened the envelope which i had sent to one of the twins and unfolded the piece of paper inside. I read it out loud, " Thanks for your letter, God Bless Affection, Reg Kray." The following day another envelope dropped onto the mat, and as i had done with the envelope the previous day i carefully teared it open. "Thanks for your letter, God Bless Affection, Ron Kray.!" I was surprised but honoured that they had written back to me, although my friends and family thought that it was a rather weird obsession i had decided to find out more about the Kray family. After reading other books and studying old newspaper cuttings i decided that i wanted more from Ron and Reg than a bog standard reply. I wanted to meet the men that i had read so much about. After leaving school i had gone into partnership with my brother producing a football fans magazine and i was also printing and selling t-shirts, quite the entrepreneur. I decided the time was right to cut the Twins in on a piece of the action. This time my letters had something to offer the brothers. Free advertising in the shape of our magazine, and a chance to produce a line of t-shirts with the Krays pictures adorning them. A chance for me and the Twins to make a few quid. It didn't take long for a reply this time. They were hooked and i was finally invited into the inner circle of London Ganglands' finest. 'The Geordie Connection' was born...... Over the last decade i have met a lot of very influential people. Men and some women who probably like yourself i had only read about in the pages of books. I considered it an honour, and still do, to be invited into such a close knit circle of friends and aqquantices. This site aswell as a chance to publicise my forthcoming book is my way of paying my respects to those people that i have met through the years. With
the help of top website designer Steve Parnell we want to take you on
a journey, and let you sample the Krays inner circle as never before. The
photo and video archives give you a chance to mix with Londons Gangland
as never before. The Chaps gives you a rundown of the 'Geordie Connections'
friends and allies. We
want this site to be more than just an advert for my forthcoming book.
As i said before this is my own way of paying my respects not only to
the people that I have met over the last decade but to the three brothers
who invited me into the inner circle, Ronnie, Reggie, and Charlie Kray.Enjoy
the site and be lucky.....'The Geordie Connection.' |
