Actor
Steven Wraith Dramatic Arts and Media CV 1972 Born Steven Wraith at South Shields General Hospital on February 16th 1972.
At the age of seven I played the lead role in King Canute , a St Anne’s School play production.
Began Elocution lessons at Argyle House School in Sunderland and competed in numerous inter- school poetry recital competitions gaining honours and distinctions.
Enrolled as a member of the Young Peoples Theatre in Heaton under the guidance of Nick Whitfield. Attended weekly Saturday morning workshops and performed in various productions including ‘Oliver’,( Artful Dodger) ‘Cinderella’,( ATalking Frog) ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ (Tweedle Dum).
Established myself with the adult company at the Peoples Theatre with performances as Puck in ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ , and Lol in ‘A Cider With Rosie.’
Embarked on a three week tour of the United States with The Young Peoples Theatre, visiting New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia and performing ‘Oliver’ (Artful Dodger). I also helped to teach disadvantaged children about theatre workshops.
Played a Gangster in ‘Kiss Me Kate’ at the Newcastle Playhouse. My first taste of a singing role with the Young Peoples Theatre.
1989 On leaving school I enrolled for Newcastle College to study my B-Tec Diploma in Dramatic Arts. I played a huntsman in ‘Royal Hunt Of The Sun’ at the Tyne Theatre.
After completing the first year of my Diploma I landed the part of a pantomime dame in a touring version of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. I was under the guidance of Billy Fane. By the end of the tour I was very disheartened and decided to call a day on my acting career.
I set up ‘The Number Nine’ Football fanzine with my brother Robert. I embark on a career as a doorman in Newcastle City Centre.
The Fanzine explosion meant that the media now had access to fans up and down the country available to comment on their football clubs current affairs. I now ran my own Post Office in Gateshead and had time to put myself forward as a media spokesman. I began freelancing for Radio Newcastle, Century Radio, Tyne Tees Sport, BBC Sport, Sky Sports and News commenting on breaking news at St James Park. My busiest week was when Freddie Shepherd and Douglas Hall were exposed by a tabloid newspaper and I had to conduct over 100 interviews in 3 days including a live appearance on ‘Newsnight’ with Jeremy Vine.
I decided to sell my Post Office Business and complete a book that I had started to write about the notorious Kray Twins. I appear in an advert for dance club Ministry Of Sound as a doorman.
I am approached by Newcastle United Football Club to become Fans Liaison Officer. I accept the post. I appear in a television documentary about the Kray twins on Channel Five entitled ‘Empire Behind Bars.’
After two happy years at Newcastle United I leave the club. October sees me become a published author with the release of my book ‘The Krays The Geordie Connection.’ I attend my first audition for over ten years when I apply for the BBC talent competition. I get through to the final stages but fall at the final hurdle.
I
continue to work as a doorman in Newcastle City Centre. I apply for
‘Big Brother 4’ and get down to the last 100 but am not
selected. I apply for work as an extra in a film being shot on Tyneside
‘School For Seduction’ but receive a call to say that I’m
not required due to the cancellation of the scene I was due to film.
In October my video and dvd ‘The Krays Geordie Connection’
is released. I continue to work on two new books and am still a regular
contributor to local radio shows including ‘The Three Legends’
on Century Radio and ‘Mike Parr’s Early Morning Show’
on Radio 2004 I sign up with my first agent Janet Plaiter Management in Newcastle after a glowing reference from Chris Connel. I audition for a part in a new detective series called 55 Degrees North and land the part as a wheel clamper. I film over 3 days. The show is to be screened late Autumn on BBC1. I then record two pieces in Byker Grove as an extra playing a security guard and a workman. Again this will be screened Autumn 2004 on BBC1. I then get the part as French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez in the new Tarantino film 'GOAL' being filmed in the North East. I fulfill a lifelong ambition of playing at St James Park and scoring at the Gallowgate end. At the turn of the year i appear as a passer by in a 'Carling Commercial' and play a restaraunt customer in Tyne Tees 'Wire In The Blood', starring Robson Green. Below a selection of photographs from my acting career in 2004 2005 I clinch a part in the second series of 55 Degrees North as part of the notorious Dungarry Family appearing in episodes 7 and 8. I then appear as an extra in Byker Grove as a boom mic operator. January
2006 May 2006 Completed my Performing Arts night course at Gateshead College, passing with a distinction. June 2006 Played a Zombie in the last ever episode of BBC's 'Byker Grove.' Steve Wraith first treaded the boards at the age of 7, and launched an acting career which spanned 11 years. Steves life took a different direction in his late teens and he left acting behind...until now. Due to the huge success of his book and video documentary Steve has decided to relaunch his acting career and has signed up with reputable North East agent Janet Plaiter. Steve has landed his first role in a new BBC detective series due to be filmed in the new year and is hoping for more success in the years ahead.
